Find The Mecki
Starts Thursday, September 10th.
The MECKI is a fictional character that loves tricks and practical jokes. The Mecki is a 3-1/2 to 4 inches high doll that resembles a hedgehog dressed in German clothing. The Mecki is hidden in the Jefferson area in a public place. Clues to his location are in the Daily Jefferson County Union newspaper and posted in the Library window. A cash prize goes to the person who finds the Mecki and returns it to the Jefferson Library. Will you find him and take him home with you?
Mecki Hunt Clues will be posted here daily after the start of the contest.
The Gemuetlichkeit festival is just days around the corner, and the Mecki contest is on – starting September 10th.
Mecki is the German Hedgehog cartoon character that for decades has been the unofficial mascot of Jefferson’s German-heritage festival, which takes place September 18-20, 2015.
Clues are posted in the Daily Jefferson County Union and also at the Jefferson Public Library after 3 p.m. When Mecki is found the finder should take the Mecki to the Jefferson Public Library. The Library will contact the Gemuetlichkeit contest chair person.
A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the lucky winner – Cody Nitardy found him near the Middle School tennis courts after Clue #4.
Clue #1 – Guten Tag! It’s me Mecki! I’ve traveled back to the Gemuetlichkeit city to have a little fun and be a little silly. You will find me with patches on my pants, my trusty pick axe, I’ll be tipping my hat, and filling my pack. The weather is hot. I think I’ll look for a place, to wet my whistle with an ice cold brew or maybe even two!
Clue #2 – Hey it’s me Mecki again! Hut ab zu 45 Jahren (hats off to 45 years). Gemuetlichkeit is in the air and I can almost hear the polka bands now. I cannot wait to get to the Schafskopf tournament; I’ve been pretty lucky with an ace! I have even heard there is a big wheel race. My legs are a bit short but maybe I will try this race or maybe even the Polka run? My goal this year is to try every event and maybe even the facial hair contest? I hope I can grow a beard…maybe one of the beautiful judges will want to date me this year!!!
Clue #3 – I hope whoever finds me will teach me to swing a hammer. Hammerschlagen is not easy with a pick axe you see. I will set down my pack, swing my arm back, and give that nail a hefty whack. With biceps so strong that nail will not stand a chance. I will win the contest without taking a glance. The girls will all giggle and stand in a line, in hopes for a chance to be my sweet Frauline.
Clue #4 – Mecki here! Contest number three what will it be? The Sauerkraut eating contest will be no match for me. I’m a seasoned professional when it comes to kraut you see. Will you be brave and try to compete with me? The kraut will be served in a double serving for sure, but only one will win in the end that’s for sure. Practice your skill if you won’t match me; this contest will be a grand slam for me!
Clue #5 – Guten Tag! I ventured out of my hiding place today to get a quick bite and to stretch my legs. This town is quite patriotic with American flags all around; I’ve even seen some German flags flying tall and proud. The people here like to make a noisy racket; they don’t understand that I just cannot hack it. I wish I could ask them to stop all this noise but they are too busy going back and forth making this terrible slamming noise. I wish I would have saved my ear plugs from the Gemuetlichkeit Days trap shoot to avoid all this noise!
Clue #6 – I cannot wait to meet the Queen….I hear she sings like an angel and looks like one too! I hope she gives me a dance or maybe even two; forget about the King he will have to wait ’til we’re through! Maybe I’ll get lucky and she will give this King the boot! If I have to rally the King will jump to test; anything will do for love sweet love. She will be the Queen of my court and the love of my life, if she only says yes I will make her my wife. The King will be sad and he will say, “Love is for losers” as he walks way.
Clue #7 – The game is now done and the King has been a good sport, but I have won the Queen’s hand; she is now in my Court. Good news for me I no longer play single; it’s doubles from here on out. We will rally a bit but I will not lose my wit. You will be left alone saying, “This is the pits”.
