Find The Mecki
Starts Thursday, September 7, 2017
The MECKI is a fictional character that loves tricks and practical jokes. The Mecki is a 3-1/2 to 4 inches high doll that resembles a hedgehog dressed in German clothing. The Mecki is hidden in the Jefferson area in a public place. Will you find him and take him home with you?
Mecki Hunt Clues will be posted here daily after the start of the contest around 3:00 PM
The Gemuetlichkeit festival is just days around the corner, and the Mecki contest is on – starting September 7th.
Mecki is the German Hedgehog cartoon character that for decades has been the unofficial mascot of Jefferson’s German heritage festival, which takes place September 15-17, 2017.
Clues are posted in the Daily Jefferson County Union, Watertown Daily Times and also at the Jefferson Public Library after 3 p.m. When Mecki is found the finder should take the Mecki to the Jefferson Public Library. The Library will contact the Gemuetlichkeit contest chair person.
A $100 cash prize and the Mecki will be awarded to the lucky winner.
Clue #1 – Guten Tag! It’s me Mecki! I’m back in the Gemuetlichkeit city. The theme this year is “German at Heart”. A German heart is strong and kind with the sound of music in its beats. That of course made me open my closet, pull out my Doctor’s coat, and grab my handy stethoscope. Let’s have some fun and take a listen. Let’s see which song is playing in your heart!
Clue #2 – Guten Tag! I love to visit Jefferson. It is so beautiful during this time of year. The days are still warm but the hints of der Herbst are coming near. The leaves are starting to change, nights are getting cool, and all of the children are back to school. Swimming is definitely coming to an end and football season is starting to begin. The summer is almost over but fall activities can be just as fun.
Clue #3 -Guten Tag! As I’m out and about I’m checking everything out. I noticed the farmers are beginning harvest, while the smell of fresh cut grass is still in the air. This of course is causing my allergies to become a nightmare. I hope I don’t wake up tomorrow with watering eyes and a running nose. Oh no; it seems I have left my old fashioned handkerchief at home. Where will I get a tissue to blow my little nose? Do you think the local store will allow a hedgehog inside? Maybe I will have to find an old friend to sneak me right in?
Clue #4 – Guten Tag! I think I will wait here and relax for the rest of the day. I’m a bit tired from walking around and I had a fall today. I was admiring all the flags and suddenly tripped. I tried to catch myself, but like a ton of bricks I went straight down. I am doing ok; no need for an ambulance. I found some ice for my bump and now to find die Kopfschmerztablette. I hope I can sleep and have good dreams. Maybe I will dream of Gemuetlichkeit Days…I pray the music will not create a bigger headache.
Clue #5 – Guten Tag! Mecki here! I’m so busy trying to keep up with all the things in this town. The next big attraction is Gemuetlichkeit Days. They even hold a car show that I visit every year. I enjoy collecting vintage things and cars were once a passion of mine. On my eighteenth birthday I bought a Mustang. She was fast and definitely impressed all the Frauleins! They would all giggle and wave as I drove by. Sometimes they would even blow me a kiss! I surely miss that car, but that was almost forty years ago. Now I’ve taking up doctoring and I have no regrets.
Clue #6 – Day six is here. The sunrises here are beautiful early in der Morgen. There is nothing like the calls of der Morgan geese and sound of distant bells. It makes me feel right at home and warms my heart. The Flowers are still in bloom, but that will be coming to an end very soon. As fall begins winter will soon try to carve its way in. I hope by then I am found! I do not want to freeze because you’re fishing around!
**Mecki was found at 4:30 p.m. Thursday September 15, 2016 after this clue**
Clue #7 – Guten Tag! Today Gemuetlichkeit Days begins! I need to find a ride because I am a bit tired from walking around. Last night I went out for a nice cold brew and had myself a fun thought or two. I thought of meeting the beautiful Queen and possibly even sneaking a dance! I should look out; I hear the King is a little taller than me. What if I show up with flowers for the Queen and a beer for the King? Do you think I could get a dance with persuasion? He will be too busy with his stein to even notice that she is waltzing with me. With my luck that will not work and he will come at me like an angry Ursus! I would hate for my friends to worry about making arrangements for me, because I’m being sent home via wooden box! I surely like to dance with all the Fraus, but their husbands always seem to get in the way!
